Dunsland Garden Centre, Good Quality Shouldn't Cost the Earth
You must visit Dunsland this month if you are planning anything for the garden: Pots, Furniture and Top Quality Plants. 12th of May Environmental Awareness Day at Dunsland
Recycling, Composting and Water Conservation are the real buzz words of the
moment and it is no surprise that Peter Dowdall of Dunsland Garden Centre is hosting
an Environmental Awareness day in Dunsland Garden Centre on Saturday 12th May
from 11 am.
On hand to help with all your queries
regarding these issues will be experts from Cork County Council and Cork City
Council along with Peter himself. Many of you will know Peter from visiting
Dunsland and many more of you will recognise him as the TV3 Gardener on Ireland
AM or will be regular listeners to his gardening feature every Wednesday on
Corks 103FM. So the 12th of May is the day to get to Dunsland for any help on
the above mentioned issues.
Also there on the day will be several landscapers who will be able to offer
their help and advice on any of your gardening queries. You will be able to
discuss your own gardens with these professionals and view some of their
previous work and make appointments with them to visit your own garden.

Community Timebank and Pfizer Ireland HeartSafe Training – A Huge Success
Community Timebank has been working for the last number of months with Pfizer Ireland and the Little Island Community Association to organise HeartSafe Training for the community, free of charge. On Sunday April 16th, a total of 56 people from our area were trained for two hours in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) at the Radisson Hotel Little Island. The room was kindly sponsored by the Radisson SAS. Pfizer Ireland sponsored the training which was carried out by Elite Ambulances. CPR is an easily learned first aid procedure, which if used promptly after cardiac arrest can sustain life until medical help arrives. The parish of Glounthaune has now taken the first step towards becoming a HeartSafe Community. The HeartSafeTM Community Programme is an Irish Heart Foundation initiative which aims to encourage all communities to strengthen every link in the ‘Chain of Survival’ in their community. All those who took part in the training will receive certificates from the Irish Heart Foundation. There will be another chance to avail of the training in September with an additional workshop offering a further two hours training in the use of AED (Automated External Defibrillators).

Update from Glanmire Gardai
Recent Crime Trends.
In recent weeks we’ve had a number of smash and grab incidents in the area. These occurred at Moun Baun Woods in Watergrasshill on a Sunday afternoon where five vehicles were broken into. Wallets, hand bags and cash were taken in these crimes.
If you are leaving your Vehicle unattended for any reason, be it for a walk, visiting a grave yard, training, going to Mass etc., please do not leave any valuables in it such as cash, hand bags, mobile phones, laptops. There are criminals on the prowl the whole time looking out for easy prey.
In the past week, a number of offices have been broken into, resulting in the theft of cash and Lap top computers. In the Little island area a number of Warehouses have been broken into resulting in the theft of Stainless steel. Kerosene / Home Heating Oil is in big demand also. If your Oil tank is situated near a road, please move it to the rear of the House or into the Garage. These tanks can be drained in minutes with the use of high speed pumps. Remember if you see a suspicious vehicle, take the reg. no. and give the Gardai a ring.
Neighbourhood Watch
Neighbourhood Watch meetings are still continuing in the area. Please contact Garda Noel Fitzgerald if you wish to set one up.
Senior Citizens
Please let us know of any senior citizens living in your area so that we can put them on our Register. Contact Garda Noel Fitzgerald, Glanmire with details.
