Community Timebank Update

Community Timebank is working hard on the Welcome Night, Youth Café and Heartsafe Community Initiatives.  We would like to thank the Order of Malta for delivering the First Aid course for groups which was highly successful.  We have also made connections between families and babysitters, connected local with jobs, facilitated the GCA’s submission on the proposed development in Johnstown / Killahora and facilitated a meeting with Cork County Council Engineers and local businesses regarding the sewerage works.  We have also sent out text messages about local sporting events.  We would like to thank all of our fantastic volunteers who helped us out this month.  Please consider contributing by purchasing our Membership Card for €50 to allow Timebank to keep working to make our community a better place to live.  Details available from Timebank.

Irish Heart Foundation. Little Island Community- Heartsafe Community Initiative – Facilitated by Community Timebank - Public Information Meeting: All Welcome
The Heartsafe Community Initiative teaches people basic life support skills to help sustain life at home and at work.  11,000 people in Ireland die each year from cardiovascular disease.  6,000 of these deaths result from sudden cardiac arrest.  Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) can save lives, and the earlier the intervention, the better.  CPR is an easily learned first aid procedure, which if used promptly after cardiac arrest can sustain life until medical help arrives.  CPR is a vital link in the chain of survival to save a life. Come along to the meeting and find out more.

Work is progressing to get the Youth Café up and running on Friday Nights.  We have a fantastic team of 15 adults who are willing to get involved and we are very grateful to them for this.  We are looking for a pool table that can be folded away – if you can help let us know.  The next meeting for adults will be on 20th February 2007, 7.30pm Community Timebank Office, Glounthaune Community Centre.  More adults are always welcome to get involved.  Helping out will involve attending the Youth Café one Friday night a month and going to one team meeting a month.
