Investing in the Community

The existence of Timebank is totally dependent on local support.  It relies on local people to make a contribution and invest in their community.  Why not avail of our membership card scheme at €50 with local discounts in Rising Tide, Radisson SAS spa and gym, Dunsland Garden Centre and a monthly raffle.  If you would like to contribute on an ongoing basis why not setup a standing order for €5- €10 per month

Timebank Review of the Year

This year Timebank:

·       Has helped local activity groups to publicise their events and activities and offered them support on many issues, which we will continue to do into the future.

·       Facilitated activities with the Parish Council, Community Associations, local schools and churches and Erin's Own

·       Has also worked with Cork County Council on infrastructure issues such Glounthaune Village Sewerage Scheme, with CIT and UCC for student placements and contributed to the National Taskforce on Active Citizenship.  In 2007, Timebank is committed to continuing these partnerships to make the parish even more vibrant.

·       Has made individual connections such as connecting local babysitters to families, transition year students were placed with companies, local people were connected with businesses for jobs, many people were connected with local activity groups, help was found for people in difficulty and advice and information was given to local people on local issues.

·       Worked with the Glanmire Gardai to launch the Glanmire District Business Watch and a Timebank Security Texting system for companies.

 Also:

·       The Timebank DVD was produced, which showcases the beauty and activity of the Parish.

·        The Subscribing Membership Card scheme was launched with local discounts in the Rising Tide, Radisson SAS spa and gym, Dunsland Garden Centre and a monthly raffle.

·        A Drugs Awareness Evening for Parents was held which was very useful and informative.

·        Timebank launched our Connections Email Bulletin, in addition to the Text Alerts which is full of local information and updates.  Next year we look forward to expanding our text and email list even further.

·       Timebank Website www.communitytimebank.org has been re-developed to ensure that is now a really useful resource for any-one who wants to find out more about the local community.

·        Timebank Volunteers also organised the Timebank Wine Reception which was a great night.

·       Timebank would like to thank every-one who helped to make this year such a success. and would like to wish every-one in the Parish a safe and happy Christmas. We look forward to working with every-one Next Year to achieve the Timebank Mission  to “ensure that every-one enjoys and values being part of their own community”.

Knockraha Area Community Association Progress Report

Progress report on recent projects to enhance the village & its environs & upgrading of community facilities

Projects completed since early 2005 involved:

·       Landscaping: at entrance to Chapel Field and smaller areas on both sides of the old school house, which has considerably improved the visual aspect of these areas. Tree planting was also carried out in the Church grounds and also a Christmas tree which we hope will be ready for decoration in a year or two.

·        Crest:  Cnoc Ratha translates as the ‘Fort on the Hill’ which is depicted by our local artist Noreen Gleeson, on Liscannor stone entrance pillars at both sides of the village and on the plaque recently erected at the gable end of the Community Hall.

·        Improved signposting:   Is presently in progress showing the way to St.Cuains Well &  Kilquane Cemetery from the Church and Balligohig hill.  A Fingerpost heraldic signpost will shortly take the place of the old Co.Council signpost at the Church wall.

·        New Garbage Bins will shortly replace those already in place for a numbers of years and have become quite shabby and too easily accessible by crows.

·        Tidy Towns & Anti Litter Campaigns: This year we went a step further and entered the National Tidy Towns competition and did reasonably well for our first effort. The adjudicators were very complimentary on the village houses who made an effort in colourfully painting their houses and erecting hanging baskets. However certain areas in the village & approach roads need to be freshly painted in bright lively colours. It was recommended that derelict buildings be camouflaged and made safe.  Ideally a Tidy Towns Sub-committee should be formed and a 3-year plan should be prepared if we are to make progress in making Knockraha the prettiest village in East Cork. You can make the difference….every little helps!!!

·        Community Hall: The stage was upgraded early in 2006 with replacement of stage ceiling, new stage lighting and freshly painted with lively colours. Most of this work was done voluntarily. New furniture was also purchased. The front windows of the hall and also the kitchen window will shortly be replaced.

·         Roads & Road Safety The Community Association are very concerned about the poor condition of the public roads are regularly in touch with Cork County Council re same.  The high speed of cars driving through the village and on the narrow country roads has been a major concern for some time. Traffic calming road marking have recently been applied and we ask you drivers to please obey them for the safety of our children attending the school and hall.

Most of the above improvements would not be possible without part funding  by Cork County Council, Urban & Village renewal scheme & Amenity Grant, ECAD & Pobal. We really appreciate their financial input & advice. The balance was funded by Knockraha Area Community Association who are indebted to the local community who have supported the many fundraising events throughout the years.  Thank You.
