BRIEF HISTORY
The Lota Therapy-Swimming Pool (15m x 7.5m) was officially opened in 1983 although it actually began operating two years earlier, replacing the old outdoor pool with its kids’ paddle pool and fountain, the remains of which are still visible ‘out the back’. Glounthaune Swimming Club is one of the original private groups and has been using the Lota Pool since March 1982 on Sunday mornings 11am to 12 noon.

Club Secretaries to date have been as follows:

  • Mitchel Barry of Kilcoolishal 1982- 89
  • Michael Kelleher of Sallybrook 1989 – 1996
  • James T Quain 1997 – to date.

The contract with Brothers of Charity, Lota is for 36 weeks in 2006, Sundays 11.00 – 12.00 noon from January 8 to December 17, excluding Bank Holiday Weekends ( 16 & 30 April, 4 June, 29 October ) and July & August. Should the Swimming Pool not be available for any other reason, Lota will notify us where possible.

The following guidelines are suggested to ensure smooth operation and maximum enjoyment for all:

  1. Please co-operate with the Pool Supervisor and follow the Pool Rules. S/he is providing us with a Lifeguard Service.
  2. Your Children are your responsibility under your care. Please ensure they follow Pool Rules/Guidelines and consider other users.
  3. The recommended maximum number of Swimmers in the Pool at any one time is 40 – we have exceeded this a few times. To help prevent this, half-sharers should liaise ( A with B ) to avoid clashing. Also, the occasional guest (accompanied by a member ) is welcome, but please do not abuse the privilege.
  4. The Changing Room facilities are limited, so please ensure your family do not ‘hog’ showers or dryers. Early arrivals (before 11.00am) and late departures cause problems for the Supervisor and complaints from other groups.
