Brooklodge Parents & Toddlers Group

Parents and Toddlers groups are a great way for parents to spend a fun and enjoyable morning with their children in the local community.

Every Friday the Brooklodge group meet at 10.30am in the Brooklodge community centre. The morning begins with song and dance. Everyone joins in singing old favourites like “Head, Shoulder, Knees and Toes” and “Incey Wincey Spider”. Lots of times the songs have actions, which we can learn, to go with the music.

Then, at about 11am, storytime begins. At this time one of the parents reads a story and those who want to take part sit around in a circle and listen. Meanwhile other children help the adults take out the toys which are available for everyone to play with. At this time lots of the parents have a chat over a cup of tea or coffee and some biscuits.

If one of the children is celebrating their birthday we usually throw them a little party, with their Mum or Dad bringing a cake. On other occasions like Hallow'een or Mothers Day we do Art & Craft and make things like cards and other gifts. From time to time we also go on outings to local attractions such as Fota Wildlife Park.

The morning ends at about 12 noon although sometimes it runs on a little longer. Many local parents find the group to be a good way to meet with other parents in the area and for the children it is an ideal way to ease them in to school life. They learn about sharing and playing with others with the comfort of knowing that their Mum or Dad is nearby.

The Parents & Toddler group costs €2.00 per morning and all children from birth to 5 years are welcome.
The group meets all year round and so does not shut down for the summer months.
