Golf Classic continues to be an annual success

Glounthaune Community Association's annual Golf Classic took place on Friday 30th April and all agreed that it was a great way to kick off the May Bank Holiday weekend. As has been the tradition with this event the weather stayed dry – although for a while it did look like rain was on it's way. As with past years the event took place in Harbour Point and all the 53 teams greatly enjoyed their round of golf.

This year's scoring was extremely high and many congratulations to the following teams:

Well done also to Gerry Murphy, Cork Metal, who won the longest drive on the 16th hole and to Dermot Dromgoole, Haswell Consulting, whose ball landed nearest to the pin on the 17th.

The Golf Classic is the principal source of funds for the Glounthaune Community Association which takes care of the Community Centre as well as providing support for other community activities. The funds raised are also used for the provision of youth activities in the area.

Many thanks to all those who supported the Golf Classic this year through entering teams or sponsoring prizes. Thanks also to Harbour Point for allowing use of their excellent facilities.
Finally thanks to those who worked hard to ensure that this year's Golf Classic ran as smoothly as ever – Lucille Chambers, Maria O'Callaghan, Maria O' Halloran, Teresa O'Sullivan, Alan McKnight, Derry Delany, John Joe Donnelly, Terry Flemming, Tom Seacy and Brendan Howley.

Thanks to the efforts of this group of local people amongst others, the 2004 Glounthaune Golf Classic followed in the tradition of previous years of being an outstanding success. (l/r back row - Brendan Howley, Alan McKnight, front row - Conor Hayes, Tom Seacy, Lucille Chambers, John Joe Donnelly)
